Our long studies on properties of various keratolytic agent and their modes of action had led us to the conclusion that many of them can be combined to get the best effects when we need to soften or

remove hardened thick keratin of the skin. Urea, acids and alkalis is a group of the keratolytic agents and is the golden standard. The mixtures of Urea with acids or alkalis are very challenging to mix from the technological standpoint due to their chemical interaction that may lead to decomposing of the actives.

Thus, the developing of the product had gone through the endless trials and fails before we got what we wanted.

Both Urea and Alkalis work as keratolytics – they both destruct/denature such durable protein as keratin. It is well known in Biology that keratin is one of the most durable proteins in the living nature.

However, they perform differently. It is still not quite understood how Urea works. Alkalis just dissolve the proteins via protein hydrolyzation making them water soluble substances. Both chemicals work in the dose dependent manner. We have discovered that Urea solutions work better in the presence of the small amount of alkali. This effect is well known and used for years in such products as depilatories where Urea is always used as a booster for the primary hair removers, which in turn are always alkaline substances.

The hair keratin is too durable and hard to dissolve type of keratin and it has its own unique structure. The skin keratin is quite similar but has a different structure. We have created Expeelure Supreme where Urea plays a role of the primary keratolytic agent and alkali is a booster. These two actives are included in the environment of sugar alcohols and glycols in order to ensure stability. The glycols also play a role of protectants, effective moisturizers and penetration enhancers.
